My chief tech/gadget metric of recommendation is 'Would I purchase this $expensive_electronic again?' I'm a big shopper at Amazon, but I don't care about the exact breakdown of stars a certain product gets. My usual method is to look at the

Wow. Just when I was thinking about looking for greener pastures, Sprint does something seemingly user-friendly for once.

I think that the stock Nook Color app is not that great for reading pdfs. I use the Adobe one and I've tried one other pdf viewer (that I can't recall the name of now), and they were markedly better.

Same here. I love my Nook Color. I bought it specifically to root it. I own a Kindle which I would much rather read long-form fiction on. The Kindle is terrible for reading academic pdfs and programming books. That is at least 50% of my use

I'm a pathologist. "This is superior to even the pathologists," Castro said. This is a stupid statement and a ridiculous conclusion in the linked article. Let's talk about why this is a shitty conclusion. 1. This study was looking at

I think the requirements are fairly nebulous at best and mostly aimed at documenting your practices for access, and (god-forbid) breach/compromise. I think that you are covered if you cover these things in you operating procedures, but that

That's good to know about flash. One of the reasons that I am moving to using a mac is the crappy experience with flash in Ubuntu. I'm tired of it.

Bad analogy (on the author's part re: surgeons). That example is precisely like the oral portion of board exams for specialties that have them. When you hire a board-certified surgeon, they have already demonstrated the ability to jump thro

You should at least try nginx/gunicorn ( http://gunicorn.org/ ). And if your clients are constantly pinging and the data hasn't changed, make sure you are caching it in memcache (etc) to relieve the database. http://ericholscher.com/blog/2

But in his defense, as of 1224 EST the AP link reads: CIA Director Peon Panetta says U.S. intelligence indicates that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak is on his way out. Which is amusing.

Couldn't agree more. I love my Kindle for reading long-form (novels, non-fiction). But I read a lot of medical journals and while you can read them on the Kindle, it is sub-optimal at best. Plus I'm a pathologist and most of my journals hav

I have an Xbox that sees some use, and I used to be a big CS fan back 2002-2005 or so. But I've been strictly a linux user since then and I haven't played any PC games. I'm going to be migrating to a Macbook once they update the processors

Hey Niels- I'm a military doc too so I feel your pain on AHLTA. Fortunately, I only have to go to AHLTA to read notes, since in pathology we use a separate system for entering reports. Pathology really needs a web-based system also. Our exi

Agree. I am also on a CDMA Hero. I rooted to get to 2.1 when Sprint did not initially provide OTA updates and only had Win/Mac paths for upgrade. Rooted and never looked back. I went for a Sense-ified 2.1 build. Finally went AOSP to get to
