No. You need to have a unique ID set in the header. You can do this in calibre. Specifically, a unique 4 byte character sequence at the 32 byte offset in the header (MOBI header). See: http://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/MOBI If that's set (e

Not really. You just develop independent, reusable modules, drop a package.json in the module and npm link the module to your app. It gets symlinked to your app's node_modules.

What I really like about LCTHW (after reading K&R and then just not doing anything with it ) was starting you out using the tools and best practices right from the beginning. Make and valgrind up front. It got me over the hump of synta

Spot on. Never (okay very rarely) do business logic in your views. Just don't. Model methods for row-level logic, managers for table-level logic. It's easier to test, it's easier to abstract and it's easier to change your views later.

I think that the documentation for backbone and underscore is excellent. And the single page, annotated source code is probably even more helpful. The thing that I wish the project had was some official opinionated best practices guidelines

I hate writing this comment because I actually have a lot of warm feelings about St. Louis. I grew up there and went to college + medical school there (until I was about 25). Then I left. I always say that St. Louis is a nice place to be fr

The only thing that I really dislike about iCloud is sharing a computer (with your wife/family). Our family room computer is a mac mini that is logged into one user account all of the time. It is shared by myself, my wife and my kids. The i

How is the power management of Ubuntu on the Macbook and does close-lid-to-sleep work flawlessly? Those are the two non-starters for me with linux on a laptop. OSX just does an awesome job with both of these.

For personal projects I set up Google apps to handle inbound/outbound email for an admin email. Then postfix on the server in a null client configuration for outbound email only (eg. no-reply) type registration emails and so forth.

I was driving and listening to NPR the other day. Some story was on about the MPAA and the new SOPA bill. I hadn't yet heard that Dodd was the new MPAA chairman (chief lobbyist). I was almost physically sick when that came across the air. I

The one catch with nginx is that it doesn't support http 1.1 (ie. websocket support). So if you want that you have to reverse proxy with something that does like haproxy or node-http-proxy.

But the point about project-local node_modules is that it is baked into the ecosystem. Directly contrast that with the reason that most people use virtualenv which is to not pollute the global python install with project-specific dependenci
