There is nothing heartless about it, if the system doesn't work for people born in one particular country. I say this as an Indian H1B holder. If anything, the US has given me opportunities that I wouldn't get in India. I work on

Europe is seeing the "benefits" of this policy, Canada will soon be next. The "geniuses" supporting all this do not realize is that this is how you destroy the culture that your ancestors built, screw up social harmony a

I am an Indian H1b holder. The system is not meant to be beneficial for a nationality or a group of nationalities. Indians very well know that the green card waiting times are super long, and yet they'll come here, give birth to kids,

That and many a time the companies do the job postings on things like local newspapers, which no one reads. This way, the companies get to prove that they posted the job someplace, but no one responded to it. USCIS and the DOL don't ca

As a current H1B holder, I agree. I always say that visa workers may not realize it at first but the day they stand outside the consulate for their visa interview, they indirectly agree to whatever headaches come with being on an H1B (or an

This is correct. Most European countries have much more stringent immigration policies. Switzerland is a great example, where the process is longer and also they checks to see whether an applicant has indeed assimilated well, are a lot bett

I am someone on an H1B visa myself. FAANG lobbies for things that make it easier for them to control H1B's in any way they can, while showing that they're all for a better experience for visa workers. Few instances were FAANG lobb

Most production C++ codebases are very wary of using much boost. Two of the four places I worked at (wrote C++ at all of them), the use of boost was very minimal and only when absolutely needed. The first place where this was the rule, the

I have heard of it but never used it. I'd try it out on my personal machines. Work machines are Windows thin clients, since IT doesn't want to support Macs and the Linux teams are absolutely only concerned with dev and prod Linux

True true! I am stuck to Windows at work, while we SSH into development Linux machines. Windows terminal and WSL keep me from going insane. All I need to do is just F11 the terminal, make it fullscreen and forget ever that I am on Windows.

Most of JS's trading interns and new graduate hires, are STEM grads at HYPSM schools. SBF going to MIT gave him a big leg up.

I work in the trading industry. These people had short tenures at JS, especially Ellison. They weren't seasoned senior traders making big decisions. JS, unlike Alameda, has been in the business for 20+ years and have been very profitab

I work in the industry at a market-maker. Jane Street is a lot more than just these two people. Prop trading firms and some quantitative hedge funds are a lot different than traditional hedge funds. Jane Street is mainly an ETF market maker

They should blame Xi. All these economic decisions wouldn't have happened had there been no COVID. The Chinese government deliberately released this lab-made bioweapon/virus, to see how it would negatively impact most of the world

At my shop, my boss makes 7 figures. Some of the other very senior engineers make those too. At HRT, Jump, it definitely happens more. Jane Street is not a C++ shop, they have devs making 7 figures too.

Most places need people who have production C++ experience. If someone is self-taught and hasn't done production-level C++, then some places are willing to train but don't expect to be hired in anything above a junior-level role.

That's another load of BS spread by people not in the industry. They equate HFT's and quantitative hedge funds the same as investment banks. At most HFT's, mine included, devs are mostly doing 40-45 hours a week. Some places
