It would be deeply wrong to use such an algorithm to add detail to blurry CCTV images in order to incriminate someone. I don't think every police force, security firm, security agency etc will agree with me on this and that concerns me

I've not looked too far into it but my guess is that ripgrep being faster is just due to Gnu grep using a slower algorithm (and supporting unnecessary extensions). The Rust regex library excludes look-arounds and backreferences and is
