I love Mike Judge. And as entertaining as Silicon Valley is. I find Betas to be more genuine and well rounded as a show, give it a try! Both are good.

I second this, and I'm a huge Mike Judge fan, but "Betas" feels so much more genuine then "Silicon Valley". Both are good, but I'm completely sold on "Betas".

Sure, decentralized networks can have variable speeds, but you could put a caching layer in front and the problem should be solved, no? The writes will be variable, but reads don't have to be.

I can second this, it's a drop in replacement. Postgres is still my preference for a RDBMS. Schemas, Triggers, JSON, Geo, PL, robust data types, it just offers so much more then MySQL/innoDB/MyISAM.

I don't know Ryan directly or personally, but I think this whole situation speaks volumes to the effects of burn out, plaguing out industry. I've also wondered why Ryan never reached out to his audience for people to intern during

I've actually talked with Kevin before, they do seem to care about open-source & security & scalability. I mean, from what we talked about, I got the sense they do. But for them, I think things are moving fast, and it's ha

Sure, it's not unheard of, but I think for most users, for most of the time, it's not a typical thing to happen. You instead work on a tree of small files. The odd time, I need to edit a huge file like a database dump, I'll p

I understand your point of view, but isn't that sort of the spirit of open source software? To take it and build something with it. I mean, they didn't close the repo, it's still up there, they just made the decision to not c

I'm really hoping they make it completely open source with service-optional business model, they core needs to be open or it will have the same problems as every other closed source editor.

You hit the nail on the head there: "tries to modernize, adapt, or polish them". There's a lot we can do with the stack, we've got websockets (pair programming anyone?), workers, sql, and more baked into browsers. I'

Move over, I'm hoping for a service-optional editor, also run locally hopefully. I don't mind adding cloud features, but not solely based on, as it creates the same problems closed source editors have.

LightTable is different then most editors by design, in that it tries to reproduce Bret Victor's idea on "the future of programming". Brackets is really neat, it just attempts to be a good editor, it has some unique features

And it's totally gonna be awesome. I'm fairly confident they built it around node-webkit or another wrapper, perhaps in browser, I'm not sure. What's important is that it's a text editor on top of web technologies.

I worded it as an oversimplification, but it does offer the same service a REST endpoint would offer (CRUD docs), and more via subscriptions. REST in itself is just an RPC, what I'm trying to convey is that it offers the same, plus mor

I beg to differ, in that the article doesn't consider the cost-benefit around the effort required to run them. Running your own hardware will cost significantly more time to manage than the latter, in my opinion.

Yea, I need some jade or haml, as the current packages are brittle as f#%k. Asset ordering for packages is another important issue I'd like to see rolled out for 1.0. In terms of growth, who knows, right now it appears to be linear, bu
