Yeah the more auditory learner types don't need to take notes. If I try to do this as a visual learner I'm like "yeah yes OK I get it!" then completely forget what the lecture was about 30 min later. If I just take like

Yeah my current washing machine is a refurbished old school top loader. Easy to install, wash cycle is 45 min, gets clothes super clean. It's definitely not water efficient but at least it doesn't take 3 hours to actually clean yo

How is art supposed to be "effective" exactly? Like how would you measure the efficacy of a painting?

Not to mention that some of these things get easier once you have the skills for them. E.g. I've been buying my own health insurance on the open market since I was 22 - now in my early 40s, it takes me maybe an hour or two to fully com

People have varying definitions of art. Mine is more about communication and changing perceptions, I couldn't care less about time spent. I know artists from both camps.

Speaking as someone who was a teenager in the suburbs in the 90s, it totally predated screens. Walking 40 min on a road with no sidewalks got you to a 7-11. We used to go play in the woods until they knocked them down to build a "golfi

Because we've been gutting scientific grant spending since like 2005, leading to a cutthroat environment where for the most part only the most well-connected and well known get the big grants?

I'd rather have a panel of experts in the field with clear criteria decide the merit of the grant vs a crowdfunding-like model where people vote for the most charismatic person with the most well-produced video.

Universities already have their indirect cost rate negotiated (most are like 80-120%). Default for newcomers is around 30%, until you can build up the history and wherewithal to navigate the negotiations for establishing your own rate.

No, it adds a huge burden. It's already eaten up a large amount of my bandwidth. If they don't repeal it I also have to get some kind of VC or other debt funding, which is by no means guaranteed. Not to mention that writing these

I'm no expert, but my understanding is that any expense related to software development would have to be amortized regardless of company structure or employees. So, two scenarios: a) If you were a sole-proprietorship, you made $100K re

Yup, I am screwed because I got an SBIR grant in 2022. The default indirect cost rate is ~30%. In this new scenario, it should be something more like 60%, which reduces the usable funds that can be spent on actual development (IF you can ev
