I don't know. Carmack doesn't strike me as the sort of person that would want to waste his time with all the extraneous details involved in starting a company. Seems that he prefers to have his own isolated fief where others can h

Are you going to go around making these insightful edits for everyone with an opinion in this thread?

This was debunked in an article I saw recently, where it turned out that the data was cherrypicked pretty dramatically. Let me try and locate it.

Many aspects of human behavior have been found to be highly heritable too. IQ for one. Aggression for another.

What interests me is why Brennan was so confident at the beginning of this affair that he was willing to go on record making comments like: >We wouldn’t do that. I mean, that’s just beyond the, you know, the scope of reason in terms of w

I'm sorry but this: > HN is a happy place, and politics are anything but happy. makes me want to puke a little. I think you are probably right though, I can sense a major demographic on this site who are eager to ignore controversia

It isn't just the rules. I think the post is greyed out because a number of members seem to have flagged it, for no specified reason as far as I can tell. If you look at the post about their Reddit AMA it's the same story: https:

Where the hell is the new Intercept article on HN? The more I see obvious manipulation and malevolent flagging on this site the less I want to visit it.

I remember this study doing the rounds a few weeks ago. The consensus back then was that there were significant confounding factors. For one thing, you can't be sure that the vegetarians you include in the set didn't become vegeta

Plants are not capable of nociception, as far as I can tell from my familiarity with the biology. They don't have nociceptors. They don't have integrating organs to interface with nociceptors. They don't feel . I'd be h

Nociception implies that the raw sensory data is being processed or encoded in some way. This can't happen without a nervous system. Plants don't have a nervous system , ergo, noci ception is not occurring. I am quite convinced

I think you are conducting a lot of armchair psychoanalysis without any basis. Since I am conveniently present here to help test your theories about my moral views, why don't you take the opportunity and engage in good faith? Let'

Do they integrate sensory information from those stimuli though? Do they create a subjective representation of what those stimuli are, and use that representation to guide their actions? I think those are the questions I would ask to find o

My stance as a vegan is that it is best to err on the side of assuming they do experience some form of subjective reality that probably includes pain. Most insects possess ganglia that integrate and process sensory information, and I would

Many of the most important concepts in science, not to mention ethics, are not yet well defined... I don't think your stance here is very productive.

NSA is bankrolling GCHQ and in most respects the latter seems incredibly subservient to the former. In light of that, your position doesn't make much sense to me.

As someone who was actually at some of these protests, I don't think putting my freedom on the line for said squatters is a sign of "privileged" thinking. Both have good reason to squat in the park, though your simplistic leg

They literally did the opposite of turning a blind eye. They placed Occupy activists under surveillance in multiple cities. They sent undercover cops. They used every tool at their disposal to get information on and contain the movement. If

They didn't turn a blind eye, that is disingenuous in the extreme. The police in the US and the UK detained and incarcerated thousands of people over the course of the Occupy movement, often with disproportionately violent methods. In

Did you not comprehend the portion of the article which outlined a supply side problem? You don't see higher wages in that kind of scenario, you see a steady diminishing in the market.
