This works well, if you want to reproduce a song and get every single note right, been using mplayer myself so far which also works to slow down songs.

Nice ! reminds me of the Ryzom project in Python/Django/Postgres which implements a meteorjs-like protocol and proposes the same example with a todo list https://github.com/yourlabs/ryzom

You can forward a local ssh server port on a target host with ssh -R, then from the target host back to your localhost, then the other party just needs to ssh on the target host, without an NAT or firewall modification needed.

System76 looks great, but I've been using Thinkpad X series for quite a while now. I get a configuration that's linux compatible, but my favorite feature is to have one double battery on the back + another battery inside, for a to

Looks fantastic ! Overall a better deal than thinkpad, but would like to have the option for a second battery instead of second disk and a joyclit too if that's possible

Are you saying that you didn't find one example out of the 20 examples they provide on the link i posted (octopress, nanoc, pelican, hyde, hexo, hugo, jekyll, metalsmith, vuepress, plain-html ...) that supports mobile, nor has a mobile

I agree that processes are going to be necessary to scale. My comment focused more on the conditions that seemed to make the article relevant: a small team making a new project that's not really in production (fast moving) and apparent

I'm sure sure we're talking about the same things: not communicating daily is obviously going to be a problem, such as not giving the team a chance to change your priorities. But a senior knows basic needs for a product to

    by 1337shadow 7y ago

Well, I see the point of a senior: with enough practice you should not need rituals of this kind anymore. Some seniors don't even need a kanban board on a fast moving project, they just know what needs to be done now to create value at

Most project never get to the point where they need more than 99.9% which is perfectly feasible with a single server. Interesting remark nonetheless.

    by 1337shadow 7y ago

I don't think you ever "just need one", for me one is always two : staging (and ci, by extension ..) and production. Provisioning an EC2 instance or a dedicated server just has the same cost in terms of manhour: running some

I think some young people just know AWS because of their dominant marketing, and have no idea what's it like to just have some dedicated servers - which you need for your own security anyway, unless you're comfortable sharing RAM

    by 1337shadow 7y ago

Not quite sure about that, nowadays I require a couple of 20 bucks/month servers to have one CI/staging and one training/production deployments. I'm at the point where I practice CD as in "deploy each git-push to br

AWS Lambda made both deployment and development a pain, even though the decision to use that platform for their use-case (a regular API) was just one of the mistakes done by a team that was brainwashed by expensive marketing and then paid t

I recently saved a company from serverless: development had completely stalled, continuous delivery was insanely inefficient (you couldn't deploy your set of functions at once because of dependencies), vendor lock-in made it a pain to

Containers have been around for decades in many forms (chroots, vserver ...) and will live for other decades because they are much more resource efficient than VMs while allowing immutable image deployments.
26. 566.▲
    by 1337shadow 7y ago

The point is to deploy immutable images that were clean rebuilt from scratch and tested prior to deployment, rather than upgrading an environment which becomes risky after some time. Another added value is automatic actions based on contain

If you like yarn I think you will like poetry. Using --user here, no per-project virtualenv, used to have a virtualenv in ~/.env, where i keep everything up to date and have many -e installs from ~/src. For production deployments:
