Yes! RubyMotion ships with a port of Bacon, which removes all the friction from testing in the traditional iOS stack (setting up Xcode, adding multiple targets, verbosity...). Just have to add tests in ./specs and run 'rake spec' Glance at

Very interesting that they didn't mention James Proud's Giglocator exit. Maybe they didn't reach out/he decided not to participate in this article, but if you're going for the revenue angle then it should be noted[1] There are also two fell

RubyMotion's updated very often (at least weekly) and supported the first iOS6 beta within a day of its release. That expedience could change in the future, but I don't see it being something to worry about.

Ha, I actually wrote something really similar (without knowing about QD) for RubyMotion: https://github.com/clayallsopp/formotion Ruby is better suited to this IMO (no clunky file loading), but I agree they both prove dynamic native views

I think RubyMotion proves that alternative languages don't need to come at a cost to performance. It's tougher to write a custom compiler like RM uses, but the end result is identical performance to normal Objective-C. "Just" write a simila

I think you might've misinterpreted what I meant? I didn't mean to imply anything about the growth of iOS or that ObjC being just perceived as an easier language because of the growth. I trying to say that Objective-C was really criticized

Totally agree with that, but RubyMotion is more than just the Ruby language. There's no heavy IDE, no complex target/build setup, comes with a lightweight test environment, an interactive REPL...all that adds up to remove a lot of pain in t

I can't tell if Rhodes creates 100% native apps or some kind of web/native hybrids, but it doesn't like it uses Apple's iOS SDK. RubyMotion lets you use the same APIs and classes as normal Objective-C apps, so all existing literature is tot

Yup, from the video it looks like a totally custom front-end. Sort of like an Xbox/Metro interface, no Android chrome whatsoever.

Usually when someone describes a new product as "the same as x through y while z", it means the new thing is solving a pain point. Like, "isn't Heroku just git hosted on AWS which runs a Rails server after a push?" The process you're descri

I think the value add of a `when` style isn't saving keystrokes but improving readability. What happens when the event fires is right there in-line with the button, not somewhere else on the page. Yeah there are editor tricks to command+cli

Definitely. I know RubyMotion currently supports XIBs and Storyboards, but yeah there's no integrated solution with Xcode or Instruments right now. I personally like the Rake-based approach, its more lightweight than booting up an IDE, but

It's because of a media query that responds to wider window sizes, strange that it didn't register in all your browsers (it does on my Safari when I fullscreen) It's supposed to help readability while maximizing screen use in those cases (i
