If I ever start another company, I am definitely going to do this. The burden of supporting only paying customers is so much lower, and you can really focus on what's important to them.

I left my company due to cofounder conflicts and lack of traction (we had a few customers, but weren't able to raise funding and I didn't see it going anywhere). I was really depressed for a while, and for lack of a better idea st

I was at her presentation of this on Wednesday and it was great to get a peek at how Stripe does their API development, since what they've built has been really impressive. Reading this (or watching the video) will be well worth your t

I wish GitHub would add more fine-grained permissions. Right now authorizing an app like this is giving away the keys to the kingdom and that's a little scary. For a similar reason we chose to run Hound ( https://houndci.com&

HUD navigation could be cool, but anything that takes attention from driving like showing text messages is a terrible idea and should be banned. Distracted driving is incredibly dangerous. Even hands free phone calls are distracting. http:

I read "Command and Control" on vacation this summer and I highly recommend it. It interweaves jaw-dropping nuclear weapon disasters from the whole nuclear age with a detailed account of one particular incident. It's astonish

Yeah. You can get managed hardware (for example at Soft Layer) for a much better price/performance ratio than EC2. The upfront costs are higher but the price for equivalent hardware is way cheaper. I think EC2 makes total sense for var

I wasn't at RubyConf 2004 (back then I thought Ruby was some weird Perl-ish language from Japan, not worth my attention) but for my RailsConf talk I dug up some old blog posts about what it was like when DDH first spoke about Rails at

I think I mixed together the April 1, 2004 launch date and the circa 2002 internal development period. I'll update the date. It fits in better with my thesis if it came out in 2004. ;-)
