Honest question. I'm curious what a the OPs motivation is. Are you looking to turn these side projects into profitable businesses, or are you hoping to use your network to flip them to a more interested party that would otherwise not h

Honestly I did a fair few days of research and whenever the UK is listed as an option, the figure 200,000 gbp also shows up. Looking more into this, looks like there is a special 50k gbp if the money is coming from local VC's or govern

I recently put a readme, not even the code, up for a github project. I just never got around to tidying up the code. It's an extremely niche, very fast ARM SIMD implementation of a particular feature descriptor (ORB). Anyway, someone,

There are certainly multiple ways of doing it. I'm curious, do you remember if the specific quartic had a nice "trick" to the formulation? I played with it a little and couldn't see anything that would cancel in a nice w

Totally agree. I had a problem which required finding the minimum distance between an ellipse and a point. If that had been my day job I would have settled for Newton's method and hacked around the regions of bad convergence. Instead I

I think there's two factors here 1. The relative risk is reduced only when your risk pool size becomes huge, and it would be difficult for a start-up charity to weather the initial storm. 2. The execution of such a charity would be non

I think if one really wanted to put effort into a Care Bear style NPO, one possible solution is to buy up a fleet of used toyota corollas and finance them to poorer buyers using similar style methods (e.g. keep the immobilizer and repossess

Although I didn't implement this myself, the plot accompanying the answer shows that if correctly implemented, this method is unstable in some regions inside the ellipse.

They would, however the implementation is now reduced to something you'd happily copy and paste into a code base. Part of what's novel is how the iterative step size is chosen. The Distance function can be very shallow in some cas

As other comments point out, performance mostly depends on correct implementation. Once the scripting overhead is under control, you're now measuring the performance of your blas library. A much more useful comparison, although 2.5 yea

The NEON coprocessor runs at the same CPU clock, but 20 cycles behind the main CPU. It has its own instruction queue, and as long as the queue isn't full the main CPU will simply forward instructions to it. If you want to read from the

I was stumped as to how this was possible, until I saw that it relied on memory access relative to a computed offset, for which as far as I know there are no SIMD instructions. I guess it could be argued that a texture in a shader would pro
