Don't forget the "repeat" part. Sources and data are great, but if they can't be replicated by others, the it's not verifiable.

Lots of fun history around 2600Hz for those too young to remember or not part of the phreaking crowd, a fairly extinct form of hacker these days. A phreaker going by Joybubbles was the first to exploit the tone by whistling. Later, a toy wh

True, but I'd say it's still worth the email asking. I used to work in the mental health field requested paywalled research papers on cognitive and developmental disabilities pretty regularly, and about 80% of the people I contact

Or stress. Our lives are much, much busier and inundated with tasks than those of our predecessors simply because technology allows us to do more work in shorter time (which was supposed to result in us doing less work overall, but that s

Now I'm curious how many tech companies actively used questionable practices to build their foundation, then lobbied to make those practices illegal to mitigate competition. I've a feeling this is so common that they don't ev

Hey, I don't know if your kids (or you) would be interested, but there's a few hacking games and what I'd consider educational games that they (or you!) might enjoy. [1] https://nandgame.com/ [2] https:/&

I'd heard of this. Disturbing, to say the least, but not something that will frighten me away from the word "sugar" which is the root of this thread. Bone char was also used in paint, but I'm not about to decry the paint

Do you search for broad terms like "sugar" a lot? Honest question, since I rarely, if ever, find doing so useful, even when using Google search alternatives. Generally, I am looking for specific information about the subject. If w

As a long-time play-by-poster of D&D, yes, it still dominates the TTRPG crowd. I branch out to other game systems myself, but always have at least two or three D&D games going. The game itself is not hated, just the company, and the

I agree, the replies I'm seeing to my initial comment are just dumb. One person replied "sugar daddy" which says more about them than it does about the word and use of "sugar." I get the impression that this thread

Out if curiosity, what's your take on the name? I'm okay with it, despite preferring names that help frame the product's purpose in my mind, but I can see the kid appeal in a name like Sugar Lab. Maybe I am missing some negat

Seems like a reasonable inference. Futurology, even before there was a name for it, seems to hinge on two important factors; immediate need vs convergence of technologies. This results in some admittedly anachronistic ideas, but seems like

Specific to the early decades of radio in North America, a good example might be the Mid-Atlantic Accent or Canadian Dainty, both falling out of favor around the early 1950's, about the same time the last nail was hammered into the rad
