That review completely weirds me out. Atheism does not have it's roots in the 9/11 attacks, nor is it 'new' by any definition. Sure, Dawkins wrote 'The God Delusion' chronologically after 9/11. But that doesn't mean his views were much dif

I've got a problem with that viewpoint. I'm not sure if I'm able to articulate it properly but consider that without Michael Faraday's fathers religion his son might not have been born at all, and if he was he might have followed a differen

Yes, and that is the way it is supposed to go. But here is another quote to illustrate the counterpart: "Die Wahrheit triumphiert nie, ihre Gegner sterben nur aus." Rough translation: The truth never triumphs, its opponents simply die out.

The ability to see presented/available evidence depends to some extent on your frame of reference and how much time you've spent believing something and how deeply that belief is ingrained in your psyche. Lots of scientists go to their grav

The process of getting rid of google is very much akin to the process of getting rid of closed source. You may lose some functionality or maybe some polish or convenience but on the whole it is definitely doable. The hardest ones to get rid

I think Dawkins was hoping for a different world during his lifetime and is losing patience with those that oppose the change. He's an extremely smart man, compared to him most of us really are stupid but that's not a reason to be judgmenta

So, go write yourself a web based racing game in javascript. As for books: Computer Gamesmanship by David N Levy is a classic. It's not very flashy but it will give you a solid understanding of the basics of all kinds of games, not just arc

What this does mean is that you should always look carefully at where you get your traffic and your hosting. You don't want to be dependent on a big competitor for either of those. All it takes is one tweak of an algorithm or a prolonged ou

That was, unfortunately, quite predictable. What I don't understand is that at least someone at apple HQ should be familiar with the Streisand effect. Pulling this app was the worst thing they could have done from a PR standpoint.

Yes, large files are fine. But contrary to your claim many (10's or 100's of millions) of small files and performance is terrible, orders of magnitudes slower than vanilla ext3. I don't consider the linux kernel to be 'many' files.

I'm fine with some of the criticisms but using XFS as the posterchild example of a free file system done 'right' is a bit much. XFS has absolutely terrible performance for lots of use cases (deletions, for instance). What the author also fa

This article misses out on one small detail: it is a lot easier to update software than it is to update hardware after you ship it. It was a silly tweet and I think that it may be a little bit too soon to call the race run. For now iPad is
