Call me a despot, but I am of the opinion that everyone should use the same development environment in a given team. That means same editor, same style and same OS. People might complain in the beginning if they have to change from another

Out of interest, do you know whether there are any problems with the SICStus version, and is there anything wrong with using SICStus over SWI?

Seems like I was looking for CLPQR with logical constraints, which doesn't seem to exist.

Along with interactive search (C-s forwards, C-r backwards), you can jump to the definition of a symbol (including a function) with ‘M-.’. These would be the idiomatic ways of moving around. There are multiple ways of maintaining up-to-date

`C-h k M-g g` (k for key) will also describe what the key-chord `M-g g` is bound to. Also, `C-h k` is bound to the function `describe-key`.

From first look, this library doesn't seem to provide a way of translating logical constraints into MIP constraints. I'm sure that could be implemented in terms of the library though.

I would be interested (serious) to hear what GP has to say about this in light of his own experience.

Do you know of anyone combining prolog with integer linear programming? I modelled quite a complex convex optimisation problem as a mixed integer linear programme, but it was very buggy at the beginning to say the least. I was left wishing

You don’t need linum-mode to jump to a line number. Just use M-g g, or M-g M-g.

It isn’t, at least directly. I am actually really happy to see this alternative, as queue.h uses anonymous structs, which are C11 and not well supported.

It is more effective to use 100% of generated electric to pump 300% heat with a heat pump than it is to use that electric to generate heat by resistive load.

It is at the compiler level, but there is no reason that the same methods cannot be applied to binaries. Here's a paper I found from 2004 on static analysis of x86 executables: http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~bgogul/Rese

For the record, mlockall on Linux can lock all future allocations, including those made by shared libraries. You don’t need to manage a memory pool yourself. https://linux.die.net/man/2/mlock

That’s true. I didn’t consider that. I’d be interested love to see a solution to it though. Maybe there’s some sort of OS-level solution, like how you can set the priority of processes.

These things exist for languages like C. In my imagination, completely unbased in real experience, it would not be too much harder to do for ASM. Just look at the comparisons, calls and jumps.

That’s quite an interesting problem. The mlock [1] system call allows you to lock chosen virtual memory into RAM. What about using that in combination with a memory pool which you manage yourself? [1] https://developer.apple.com&

What’s the best source for getting into C++ these days? I ask this as someone who already knows a good bit of C. I’m finding it difficult to know where to start, especially after reading about the proposed changes in C++20.

Reminds me of a website I came across years ago where you had to tell a paedophile from a computer science professor. It really was sometimes quite different to tell.
