One begat the other. Of all the places that tried this, California has been the most successful at turning itself into an economic structure for enriching property owners to the detriment of everyone. California ate its seed corn and now re

I watched Dune back to back with Pig (wherein Nic Cage is looking for his pet pig), and was startled by how I felt basically nothing watching Dune (it would make a good coffee table book) but was reduced to a blubbering mess by Pig.

Don't sleep on the short stories! I read "Electric Ant" as a young man at a time when I was experimenting with psychedelics, and it still sticks with me in some ways. I didn't manage to get into VALIS. It felt a bit ment

It's getting to the point where areas that are under consideration for becoming National Park land get significant pushback from locals — we don't want to become another Yellowstone, they say! In the Northeast you do see some spot

How tight do you have to hold bath temperatures? I haven't developed C41 at home but have done B&W, and reading about home C41 I remember that it seemed trickier to get right.

To some degree it's inescapable with the small props. The higher end DJI models have enormous props which are better for noise as well as endurance. 16" props on the Inspire 3. The natural extent of this progression is to have one

My father has a story about this that I think involved driving straight down a frontage road for a couple of minutes and a bribe.

Living in a place where it snows has done a lot more for my skills. I would recommend to anyone that they find an empty, snowy parking lot and try throwing their car around a little just to see how it reacts.

I'm not sure we can draw much of a conclusion from the accident data, since as you point out, there are confounding variables.

In Norway, this is basic driver education. The drivers' license there requires "slippery road" training, which involves a more basic version of what you're describing.

One can imagine key signing parties falling out of favor once AGI become clever enough to recruit meatspace humans to do their precise bidding. (I didn't make this up, Gibson did with Neuromancer in the 80s)

MCM's 3D parts are also great starting points for stuff you'd like to print for prototyping. I just printed off a bespoke belt pulley using an MCM model as a base this past week. Added a bunch of specific mounting features I need

If you include elevation then you have to include tolerance for deviation. I live in an old house, so I can't even walk across the room without a vertical deviation of some sort :) Edit: My point here is that if you try to plot a liter

Edit: OK found the real reason. ADA requires 9" toe gap under partitions for maneuvering. 12" gap for compartments for childrens' use. If the compartment is wide and deep enough those requirements go away. ADA Standards: 604.

As a USian who uses my kettle multiple times a day I'm a bit jealous of your fast boiling kettles. It can take minutes to boil a full kettle at our measly 1.5kW limit. Just checked. 7 minutes 30 seconds to boil 1.7L :(

Cost and precedent. It's inexpensive to get a prefab kit that only needs to be bolted to a couple spots on the floor and wall, less finicky than building a partition all the way to the floor. Also USians are used to it, so we don'

I suspect that people familiar with buying womens' wear are much less prone to this mistake, seeing as how one person might fit two or three size increments depending on brand.
