In the US afaict inspections are a plus but not required for sellers to provide. Lots of people were waiving their right to inspection in order to make their offers on houses more attractive to buyers. Kind of a stupid thing to do, but peop

1895 house in Oakland with a soft story condition and a dining room that was cantilevered out over the aisle. It was listed for something like $850k in around 2018, so kind of cheap! But correcting the soft story and the rest of the framing

I had a structural engineer come and look at a house I was thinking of buying. It cost me $500. I didn't buy the house, and that $500 was some of the best money I've spent.

Doing anything that actually solves the problem is too hard, so let's do something that sounds good but does nothing. California politicians make a big show of sounding progressive, when the outcomes they generate worsen inequality. Ib

Thanks for the recipe! Reminds me... A friend of mine made a megagel that was some kind of chocolate concoction that he carried in a 300ml soft flask. It had sugar, salts, caffeine, actually tasted great, and I believe was pretty cheap to m

I dropped gels pretty fast. Hard to get if you're not somewhere with sports stores, and expensive. These days I cram haribo and peanut butter M&Ms, although I think the latter are more useful for multiday things.

I basically just add salt to Gatorade and cut it with extra sugar and malto. It's a couple extra steps but I train regularly enough that I make a concentrate (100ml=200kcal) that I put in bottle and dilute as needed.

I still use Gatorade because I'm a cheap bastard. The limits aren't wrt water absorption, but gut tolerance of sugar. I get about 100g of sugar into a bottle by doing roughly 50:50 Gatorade and maltodextrin, and then throwing in s

I wonder if anyone has made a set of earplugs that specifically target attenuation so that primary speech frequencies are less affected. I know foamies roll off HF aggressively (looks like 2k is the knee point[1]) My issue with foam earplug
