The two million people (out of 17 million) who worked for Miniluv (Ministerium für Staatssicherheit, known as Stasi, an oppressive secret service comparable to the earlier Gestapo) got by just fine.

I lived under Soviet occupation (in the GDR) for 14 years, thank you very much. It was a relatively good time , compared to, let's say, the stone age.

If the area around Fukushima is uninhabitable, then so is Denver. This irrational fear of trivial amounts of ionizing radiation is what prevents us from having abundant energy without emissions of greenhouse gasses. (But I guess that'

Obviously. I'm non-sarcastically saying that cap-and-trade won't work, because any meaningful cap is unrealistic to achieve. The political reason is: We want cheap energy. The politically acceptable choices boil down to burn

Nope. The energy density of gasoline and wood per carbon atom is about the same. So a watt is a watt, and forest are inefficient (about 0.4%) at converting sunlight into chemical energy.

You know what's the problem with that idea? There are no "sequestration and efficiency innovations". Sequestration doesn't work and takes too much energy, and efficiency cannot be improved much thanks to thermodynamics.

Yeah, makes no difference. I imagine, the software needs to remember some state variables with time stamps, to ramp power up at a certain rate or to implement PID control of the power level. Crucially, it never needs an absolute time stamp

I wonder why the GCU needs a time counter in the first place and how it is used so that the whole controller shuts down on overflow. I bet, 16 bits would be enough if handled properly.
