I agree the EU should require phone OEMs to update their damn phones. My argument is Google shouldn't and can't do that...

Yes, Google adds closed source bits just like any other OEM does and the only difference is Google updates their sit better but we blame them. My point is AOSP being open source means any OEM could base an OS on it and be fully open sourced

The platform is NOT sold. AOSP is open source... What OEMs do with it is up to them. I suppose you can produce this document? Common sense would dictate if Google could make OEMS provide updates they would already be doing that. Right?

That don't have leverage... Google is already facing fines from the EU because of what they currently require from OEMs to use the Play Services. Trying to make OEMs accept Google updates is not in the cards.

No! They absolutely can not! OS updates do not come via Play services... Why can't people understand that Android is open source? An Android OEM can (and does) modify their Android distribution anyway they like UNLIKE a Windows phone O

Android OEMs love it when people keep blaming Google for phones not being updated and as long as this happens this issue will never be addressed. Do you know how open source works? Google has no control over OEM phones or the carrier approv

Don't you mean Android phone OEMs and carriers? Google already updates their phones every month for three years which is long enough for a device most people replace or break within two years. Verizon isn't the only carrier of cou

What other people? People I actually know? I would know it's them (contact list/caller ID). It would still probably go to VM as I am not usually just sitting around waiting to answer a phone call. I will just call them back when

What? Why would anyone answer an unrecognized number? I have no problem hanging up on a telemarketer but why let it even get that far? It's NOT ignoring your friends if you don't pick up the phone every time they call. Regardless,
