That's plain insulting to the people even on here that use iOS. Some of us have owned competing devices. Some of us ran, and still run, Linux on our main PCs. What is your suggested alternative: Android? Functionally speaking, how is A

One of the things I've found strange about UUIDs is their serialization to hex when displayed as a string, yet I've seen real life projects with little technical debt store them as a string in a database. This is obviously the fau

As long as we get there eventually, I will always side with taking the time to do it right. There is room in the world for both a highly advanced browser, with the sacrifices that come with that, and a workhorse. Nothing is stopping you fro

We will see what it looks like when it is released. But it seems like Apple has a lot of music-oriented software tech inside this thing that companies like Anker won't be able to replicate. The EarPods are an apt corollary. They'r

That wasn't their public intention, but you have to believe it was talked about given that the BMW 3 is, depending on the year, the best selling luxury sport sedan in the world.

Even calling the Model S a BMW is stretching given, for the price, how bad the interior is, how average the performance is (outside of the P100D), and how poor their customer support and QA is. Tesla has no comparison in the auto industry.

Go does something like this, by referencing packages through Git url. Of course, 99% of packages you install are through Github, but that's not Go's fault. It has downsides, but its really a great and extensible system.

This is almost disgustingly obvious. There are no prices listed on the page, and as far as I can tell they are comparing a base Model 3 to the highest-spec Model S. It screams "oh yeah we've got that Model 3 thing, but you can

But that backend you were building could have already been built on Lambda. Granted, you'd have to plug in some other AWS products like API Gateway, but the cost would still be the same or cheaper than what Twilio is selling.

I disagree on the last point. I think Apple moving up spec refreshes of the MBP to Q2 makes a lot of sense given that Intel's release cycle on chips tends to be Q4. A small Kaby Lake refresh in the MBP, potentially with a 32gb RAM opti

Of course it is something new. The supposition is that Intel just rebranded something they already had in the pipeline; something which they release every 18 months or so. AVX512 was already planned for Cannonlake.

The 5820K was an amazing processor. I have one as well. Its coming up on two years old, yet for $390 ( at release ) its only ~10-20% slower than a brand new $490 Ryzen 1800x, and much of that drop can be attributed to two fewer cores. You&#

Ever heard of the i7 5820k? It was released Q3'14. 6 cores. 12 threads. i7 name. Around $400. [1] AMD's great revolution was getting the TDP on that core count below 100W, and getting them onto a consumer chipset/socket inste

The i9 isn't new. Its a rebranded Skylake-X/KabyLake-X chip. This has been on their roadmap for over a year [1]; they just changed the name to trick consumers into thinking its something new. The hype between here and reddit about

Star Citizen is a lot of hype. But its not a scam. Even in the case that it fails and a product is never produced, that doesn't mean its a scam. A scam requires up-front intent. They went big. They could have stopped at the few million

I guarantee you that no one in Facebook feels comfortable suggesting that they investigate another possible (not likely, but possible) cause: the code is just worse, on average. And there could be many reasons for that, beyond just the simp

I'm curious: Which aspects of Facebook cause this? Do other social networks, like Insta or Twitter, exhibit this behavior? In a way, this and studies like it are damning to Facebook's core mission to connect everyone in the world.
