Citizenship is valuable. It is wealth in the form of economic opportunities, security, stability and all other amnesties afforded to citizens of developed countries. That wealth was built over centuries by the ancestors of the current citizens.
Are you proposing that we should start handing citizenship away for free? That would essentially amount to theft from the current citizens.
The current migrant situation is unfortunate but simply eliminating borders or doing away with citizenship is not the answer.
And I really disagree with the "accident of birth" bit. First of all it was not really an accident. The parents did make a conscious choice however irresponsible it might have been. Secondly all property is pretty much a matter of an "accident of birth" and citizenship is no less valuable than the seven digit inheritance that your parents might leave you.
