Solitaire is pay-to-play now? Thats insane.

- mikegioia 11y agoWow. This honestly just shows a completely lack of awareness. It's mind boggling that not only does it cost money, but its recurring. To me, this goes far deeper than the surface of "charging for solitaire". There has to be some systemic dysfunction within the windows team.
- Cthulhu_ 11y agoBut the OS is free now, so I guess it's a fair trade.
- EarthLaunch 11y agoLeaving aside how insane and petty charging for solitaire makes them look, there's a caveat to 'the OS is free'. Fact is, the OS was free to the vast majority before, either through OEMs, corporate systems, or pirating. So to most people, it's not a case of the OS becoming free; rather it appears to them that the OS is becoming less free as ads and paywalls appear.
- mikegioia 11y agoHow is that a fair trade? To pay $10 a year in perpetuity to play solitaire and freecell vs. the cost of an OS license? Or to have to suffer through ads in a program that was once free and continues to be free online, because the OS was given away? Neither of those seem fair to me.
- Goronmon 11y agoWell, technically it's been that way since Windows 8.1 People are mainly noticing now because its one of the default apps again.
