I agree that's "a" position, but there is much more. By itself, it doesn't explain why they try to defund research, deny the facts, etc. The only pattern I can find to explain it is that they might see the issue as part of the 'culture war' with liberalism, and so they reject it outright as part of their effort to reject liberalism. (But that's a huge generalization about the thoughts of tens of millions of people.)
