I had the chance to meet him in person during a summer school a few years ago. He's simply awesome. Super fun guy, great to talk to and a great teacher (even though sometimes quite a bit disorganised... I remember him leaving behind some of his stuff when he had to catch the taxi that took him to the airport at 6am or so ;) ).

- th0br0 11y agoThe best part of his teachings was probably sitting around in the commons area during the evenings and solving problems with him. Sure, his lectures were amazing, but the evenings were even better.
- ColinWright 11y agoOur paths may have crossed, then. I was at DPMMS from 1983 to 1987, spending much time in the "common room". Is that where you met Conway?
- rjsw 11y agoI met him while I was still at school, 1981 or 1982. The maths department at my local University (Liverpool) organized meetings for kids from the surrounding region who were reasonably good at the subject, Conway came to one on a trip back to see his parents.
