I've tried few approaches, which worked quite well: - Linux on DigitalOcean droplet through ssh/mosh+tmux (usage of CLI/TUI software and stable network connection is required) - full Linux system on USB 3.0 flash drive (reliable backup configuration is required) Now I use similar Linux desktops on each desktop/laptop with: - notes syncing using unison - mail stored on mail server and accessed through IMAP client (mutt) - dotfiles managed with git repository - projects managed with various VCSes - sensible data managed with pass/gpg
