It's unfortunate but the reality is that manufacturers are too cheap/lazy to segregate devices on to separate L2 segments, deploy fw or keyed A3E until forced to by exposure of hack demos. In cars (and IoT), standards make everything cheaper but easier to hack without sensible security measures.
