Sounds like you've recognized some pitfalls inherent in the culture. I think the good thing is, you don't need to be defined by this. There are a lot of people out there who prize solid planning and skill above gee wiz buzzwords. Find some of these people and work with them. Or if not, start your own gig and grow it.
