One of my good friends worked with some researcher to offload the work to a GPU ten years ago. I have stumbled on massive spreadsheets in the wild where most of the cells needed to be recalculated when you changed something, and that could take a long time to recalculate. It seems like most software out there today does this, which is pretty cool.
