Unless the females in twitter were somehow forbidden to attend, I see no problem at all with that. Beer and beer pong sounds like a lot of fun. Anyway - Newton

Anyway - Newton's fourth law - "for every action there will be SJW overreaction". The SJW are losing a lot of credibility behaving like that.
- davidgerard 11y ago> the females I can't see this usage any more without picturing a Ferengi saying it, or maybe Davis Aurini.
- gluelogic 11y agoAre you aiming to make a point here or is this a joke?
- Confiks 11y agoI empathize with the plasticity that comes with repeating gender nouns over and over again. This and humaaaans.
- davidgerard 11y agoDo you really think describing women in technology as "the females" is something that should pass without being called out?
- err4nt 11y agoWHOAH. Did you just equate the female sex to the gender of women? That sounds very gender-normative for a discussion like this!
- davidgerard 11y agosocially just story, bro
- err4nt 11y agoJust an application of Poe's law to help you see the pot calling the kettle black about diction.
- gluelogic 11y agoI expressed no opinion whatsoever on that issue. My comment was intended to be a kind of "-v" flag. Am I supposed to just know who the people the poster was referencing are? This is a discussion board. If you have a statement to make, what's the point in shrouding it in such a vague kind of statement? What I wanted to know was "should I take your comment seriously enough to do enough searching to give it context on my own, or should I just ignore it?"
- venomsnake 11y agoThis was calling me out ... sorry didn't notice. But I did it on purpose - no woman around me has ever had problem with beer or pong. They only had problems with running out of beer. So these specimens that take offense are like a different species to me.
- erobbins 11y agoThe use of "females" as though women were biological specimens to be studied is a early indicator for certain behaviors...
- geofft 11y agoI'm picturing some slaveholders in the mid-1800s tut-tutting John Brown, saying how they see no problem with slavery (naturally they treat their slaves with respect and no slave has ever complained to them), saying how the abolitionists are losing a lot of credibility behaving like that.
- woah 11y agoYour comment is so hyperbolic, it's as if normal logical discourse is a puppy and your comment is a hammer that you are using to bash it's head in.
- ossreality 11y agonot really.
- wpietri 11y agoDefinitely. A more recent example is MLK's "Letter from Birmingham Jail", where he responds to white clergy who complain about his activism: http://www.africa.upenn.edu/Articles_Gen/Letter_Birmingham.html http://www.africa.upenn.edu/Articles_Gen/Letter_Birmingham.h... A lot of people seem to suggest that society will magically get better without people getting upset about the bad parts. But when I ask them for examples, they get mysteriously quiet. A pattern nicely parodied by this cartoon: https://thenib.com/great-moments-in-peaceful-protest-history-44bdadb44cf https://thenib.com/great-moments-in-peaceful-protest-history...
- someear 11y agoI'm sure the media is sensationalizing this particular party, but the key isn't to have parties where women aren't "forbidden", it's where they feel welcome and comfortable. That is the whole problem with the existing culture of tech - we want to see more women engineers, but there are all these subtle things going on in the industry that make them not want to be a part of the scene. With my data set of sample size of 1 (my wife who is an engineer at a big tech company), it's all those small things that make her want to quit and do something else. There is just this bro culture, where she always feels left out. Simplifying it down to what's wrong with beer pong, beer pong is fun is really missing the big picture.
- derrida 11y ago> I see no problem at all with that. Thanks for the heads up.
