- Animats 11y agoAny good history of WWII covers this. "Patton", the movie, shows it from Patton's perspective. "You will not find it difficult to prove that battles, campaigns, and even wars have been won or lost primarily because of logistics." - General Dwight D. Eisenhower More detail than you probably want - Gen. George C. Marshall's comments after the war.[1] See p. 8 of the transcript. A more modern perspective - "Moving Mountains", a book by Gen. Gus Patronis, head of logistics for Desert Storm. How the U.S. Army built up a massive force in the middle of nowhere and then won a war in four days. This is a useful perspective on "speed". If you want to go fast, having massive resources available makes it work.
