I think this ignores long-term readership. Most uneducated users know how to close the entire tab and hate spam. So you'll keep getting 0.2% of an ever-smaller and more-confused set of users. In the meantime, the rest of us will learn to write greasemonkey rules for those popovers and the next generation of adblockers will evolve.
