Most people don't have a grounding in basic finance - like even making a budget - once they graduate high school. Further, we've had a couple generations of educators, parents, and government officials work to convince people that going to college is the only way they could amount to anything. Blue collar jobs were looked down upon and supporting programs were gutted or outright eliminated. Combine both of those trends and it's surprising when someone doesn't choose to go to college.
