The assertion that a 20% of a random sampling of Carnegie Mellon professors have industry experience in the sense that graduating undergraduates "go into industry" is, IMO, questionable.
I'm inclined to wonder how much of that experience came in the form of internships or jobs in industry research labs (which is technically industry, but not the same "industry" their students are going into).
