Reddit's biggest mistake was to raise $50 million at a $250 million valuation. They are now a profit-seeking enterprise that goes against the grain of what the site is all about. This is the beginning of the end.
- dopeboy 11y agoThey were a profit seeking enterprise from the beginning - they just kept punting until that round. At some point the rubber has to hit the road. I don't have the answers but I don't think monetizing the 31st most traffiked is impossible. They have to think harder and dig deeper.
- sixQuarks 11y agoI agree, they should be able to monetize it, but when the CEO doesn't know how to use the site, that's a big problem. She simply doesn't understand the user base. Reddit needs someone who understands the users and does a good job matching up advertisers that want to reach those users (in a way that doesn't feel like advertising). Perhaps only allow Reddit-approved advertisers.
