Nothing more than a publicity stunt.
I'd like to think there were goodwill behind this, but the timing and the public nature of it makes it all to obvious this is here to garner attention for their business more than altruism.
- pen2l 11y ago... so what? Facebook is one publicity stunt after another, as is Apple and Snapchat and every other company in they valley. They're all doing it for the money -- Career Village now with this, and Reddit, when it fired her. But this whole play fits in a larger story of how things go. To resist it as publicity stunt is being nitpicky in a weird way... it's kind of a fruitless exercise.
- nness 11y agoThe original poster saw this and thought it was relevant to the HN community. I called it out for what I thought it was. Stunts like this are obviously of more interest for you than they are for me. I don't think it is nitpicky, either people will say "hey, that's nice of them" or "what a stunt." You're just getting one of the very few conversations we can have on this matter without turning the entire conversation around Reddit's drama.
