Pao actually tried submitting a PM to a subreddit. Not a screenshot, the actual URL for the PM.
If she has an area of expertise other than "diversity", she seems to be flubbing it.
- istvan__ 11y agoShe is not only non-technical but also a criminal just like her husband. This is insane that she can kick out legitimate people from a community that was build ground up. Interesting read about Ellen Pao (I dont know if it is true or not): http://pastebin.com/8y4VUf4U http://pastebin.com/8y4VUf4U
- jrockway 11y ago[citation needed] on all of that.

- zobzu 11y agoI work in the silicon valley and I got quite a few promotion offers denied because I'm a white male and that's not promoting diversity. Heck, I didn't even mind it so much as long as the other candidates are +- qualified. But by that logic, I guess I should sue! ;-) Oh wait...
- istvan__ 11y agoIt kind of funny how people turn their heads away about this situation. Anyways, I just finished reading the Fortune article from 2012 and it has more color to the story. http://fortune.com/2012/10/25/ellen-pao-buddy-fletcher/ http://fortune.com/2012/10/25/ellen-pao-buddy-fletcher/ I am wondering how long it takes to destroy reddit entirely.
- DanBC 11y agoIf you have evidence that people did not hire / promote you because you are white you should totally sue. Perhaps your recent experience has opened your eyes to the difficulties black people have had for very many years. It is hard to get evidence of discrimination; that makes it hard to bring and win a case; lack of won cases is used as evidence of a lack of discrimination. Edit: added promote
- istvan__ 11y agoHe did not mention hiring anywhere in his comment. Can you actually reply to him instead of giving words into his mouth?
- DanBC 11y agoAdding the single word promote makes the post entirely an on-topic reply to what he said - white men are not discriminated against "because diversity"; and if they are the exact same legal recourse used by protected classes is open to them. But since you think I didn't answer their post: what do you think they were talking about? Do you think that "promotion" is somehow not part of "recruitment and selection"?
- zobzu 11y agoTo be honest hiring or promoting is probably similar so I wouldn't bash him. It's just unfortunate that the way we "fix things" is never fair. I'd rather we be transparent in the hiring, promoting, and salaries. I'd rather we attempt to fix the social pressure issues.
- golergka 11y agoThe facts may be true (and personally, I believe they are), but the text itself is awful. It has circular logic in it: * Thesis "Pao hates women" — I expect it to be proven in the following points. * Some proof... * Some more proof... * Some proof of the opposite — but as we know, Ellen Pao is a misogynist [so it's false, and now we don't consider this fact anymore] And overall, it's written more like a propaganda piece than an actual analysis.
- istvan__ 11y agoI did not write that I cant prove it but I hope somebody has more context. The things that I state are proven see link below.
- golergka 11y agoSince I didn't raise any doubts about factual correctness of this comment, only about it's style, I don't see how your comment is relevant.
- istvan__ 11y agoAlso, did not she just fire a legitimate female member of the community? What is the reason removing Victoria?
- mintplant 11y agoPlease don't lump this in with the anti-Pao brigade. Like her or not, the issue of admin-moderator relations goes back long before her tenure. I say this as a (currently inactive) moderator of a default subreddit.
- mtrpcic 11y agoWhichever side of the Pao debate you fall on, you have to admit that the CEO of a site that is of the size, scale, and simplicity of Reddit should understand the core functionality of the site.

- lawnchair_larry 11y agoShouldn't this be a criticism towards Sam et al, not Ellen? She was offered a good job and took it. Good on her. The failure lies with how completely out of touch the ownership is. They became good at money and bad at people, which usually happens. Unfortunately for them, reddit is little more than the people.
- rando289 11y agoI'm slightly confused. A PM url is a broken link for everyone else right?
- shock-value 11y agoExactly correct.
