My guess is that much of it comes from technologists and futurologists, who are over-represented online, and way over-represented on Reddit and HN. Perhaps we've even filter-bubbled ourselves a little bit here. In any case, the relationship between technologists/futurologists and basic income advocacy would be that basic income is the solution to an ever-shrinking labor market as automation gets better. Sort of an exit strategy from the current economic regime.
