- nailer 11y agoTo be honest I'm fairly sure the overwhelming fixation on the very rich and very poor is why we don't have a Labour government and thus have to put up with these laws.
- batou 11y agoLabour are bound by the same immortal desire to control lives. Don't pretend they are a contrast.
- yAnonymous 11y agoThey were in charge when most of this started. Are you naive, a troll, or a paid shill?
- nailer 11y agoFor criticising both Labour and the Conservatives? I was wrong about Labour being any better (see my other post) but the conspiracy theories are unnecessary and unhelpful.
- yAnonymous 11y agoIt's not a conspiracy theory, but common sense. Which you seem to be lacking, seeing as you thought one of those parties was actually decent.
- anonbanker 11y agoplease don't make these kind of posts on HN. "common sense" is usually defined as "whatever I believe is the truth" in the context of an argument. Combine this with the personal attack you made, and you have yourself a terrible post.
- stunthamsterio 11y agoI wouldn't trust either the Conservatives or Labour with this element of policy; Labour were pushing the Communications Data Bill back in 2008 which had much of the same language in it.
- nailer 11y agoFair enough. I moved to the UK in 2008 and only have limited experience of Gordon Brown's government, so I accept that I'm wrong on this one. Thanks for being civil.
- scrumper 11y agoLabour tried to (re-)introduce ID cards; they oversaw the expansion of the national DNA database to retain records of anyone arrested for any offense whatsoever; and under Harriet Harman they attempted a strong version of the 'snoopers' charter'. No different; worse in some ways.
