"Malicious Binaries"
- ThomPete 11y agocan you elaborate?
- ngneer 11y agoThe above may have been tongue in cheek, alluding to the many startups seeking to classify software as malicious or benign. At the theoretical limit, it is difficult to say what a program will do. But that has not prevented many from selling products to that effect, some of which have been successful to a degree. If the comment was in fact serious, then the problem is "securing computation". Can you tell by looking at a program in its binary format whether it would do you harm to run it or not? Can you ensure that a given program has not been taken over by malicious input? How can you detect malicious activity by software? How do you create a baseline for "normal"?
- joshmn 11y agoI think he's referring to the continuing SourceForge fiasco.
- lioness 11y agoIt is a shameless plug for the non-existent startup that creates computers with ternary architectures for the benefit of all beings...and of course would render malicious binaries obsolete.
