This seems like helping people is something to be kept at arm's length. Even the list of options seem predicated on hyper-capitalism. Where's the compassion?

- eru 11y agoCompassion makes you a nice person to hang out with. It doesn't make you an effective person.
- learnstats2 11y agoNo, compassion does not make you a nice person to hang out with: "Compassion is the response to the suffering of others that motivates a desire to help. Compassion is really the act of going out of your way to help physical, spiritual, or emotional hurts or pains of another." Giving your money to the Gates Foundation concentrates it on areas that are already receiving disproportionate help (e.g. from the Gates Foundation).
- mori 11y agoCompassion is the feeling compelling on to help others, no? In that case, the best thing to do is to help others as much as one can- that is, as effectively as one can.
