Unfortunately, you have no hope of ever escaping your conviction in the United States; that is by design as you find yourself the target of a pernicious complex of puritanism, fear, and pandering. Your other options are mainly going to involve under the table jobs or freelancing, probably your only meaningful option if you want to continue in your previous line of work. Why not hang out your shingle as a contractor? Since you're not working anyway, it can't hurt! If you have contacts from previous jobs, get in touch with them and offer your services -- as a services corporation, not as an employee. You might have more success as a corporation than as a human.
