Many SSDs have tremendously long startup consistency checks. An unclean restart of a FusionIO card used to take an insane amount of time (I haven't tried it in years; it could be better now).
- Ardren 11y agoWhat is 'long' in this context? (milliseconds, seconds, or minutes?)
- astrodust 11y agoThat sounds like an outdated observation. Those specialized cards were proprietary and also way ahead of their time. Most SSDs, like Intel's series, are instantly available. They cost little power to keep running all the time, so there's no need to power them down, and they'll be operational by the time your system POSTs.
