I'm at DockerCon and VMWare has a booth. They demoed some cool stuff. Like using docker as the interface to some of their stuff. It wasn't pure containers, but they had non-linux "containers" running (DOS was their demo). Powered by VMWare but the interface was Docker. It even supported commits, pulls, and pushes. That will be a good "polyfill" for platforms that aren't supported by Docker (yet). It seems to me that VMWare is looking for ways to stay relevant long term.
