I think I'll stick to downloading Oracle's version of RHEL.
- feld 11y agoOracle's version isn't much better.
- SloopJon 11y agoI download ISOs from Oracle mirrors that, as far as I know, are encumbered with no such restrictions, although the list of mirrors is on a wiki that is being shut down: https://wikis.oracle.com/display/oraclelinux/Downloading+Oracle+Linux https://wikis.oracle.com/display/oraclelinux/Downloading+Ora...
- feld 11y agoCan you get updates without a subscription? I thought that was the case. Or maybe that's just the Unbreakable kernel now? (includes dtrace and some oracle optimizations) Perhaps I'm remembering from the original release of OEL... I was certain updates were locked down much like RHEL traditionally was (requiring a subscription). At least that's the way Solaris is, too!
- SloopJon 11y agoDidn't see this reply until now. I don't remember whether the repository is configured out of the box, or whether I added one, but I've gotten updates the last couple of times I installed OEL. You may be right about their kernel, but I'm not interested in that. I run OEL because it's a copy of RHEL.
- nailer 11y agoYou could just get centOS.
