Unless you're an evil dick, bragging about your new $700k sports car or your $10m yacht to someone who's struggling to find a way for their kid to go to college or to get medicine for their sick grandparents is not that much fun.
Bragging about your new $700k sports car or $10m yacht to your super-rich buddy who last month bragged to you about their new $600k sports car or $9m yacht is much more likely to be enjoyable.
Plus in the real world it's not just about bragging. Believe it or not super-rich people have problems too, and they are problems that only other super-rich people are likely to be able to commiserate with them about.
And in general, members of any group -- computer nerds, artists, dock workers -- tend to hang out with other people from their same groups because they speak the same language and have overlapping experiences, etc. They "get" each other.
