Bootstrap 3.3.5 released
- baby 11y agoFWIW after years and years of using Bootstrap I'm now using semantic-UI and I feel like it's way ahead. The documentation is weir compared to bootstrap but everything feels better conceived.
- vijayr 11y agoHaven't used it myself, but this one also seems nice http://materializecss.com/ http://materializecss.com/
- yo-code-sucks 11y agoGlad to hear, bootstrap always felt like a shitty crutch. I also found semantic-ui and fell in love!
- bdcravens 11y agoI think Bootstrap serves as more of an underlying framework for a much greater UI effort than when a few years ago everything looked pretty much the same.
- burrox 11y agoSo you've had a positive experience with Semantic-UI? I'm about to start a project and I'm considering Semantic-UI or Foundation. I like the defaults on Semantic a bit more but I think Semantic 2.0 is about to come out so Foundation might be the safer choice right now.
- dmacis 11y agoI used semantic-ui for a very short period of time before moving back to bootstrap (needed to support ie8). My impression was that it is very hard to overwrite semantic classes (selectors are too specific), and components don't play that well together, especially if you're modifying some of them.
- baby 11y agoI used to be a big fan of Foundation but they kind of lost me, everything changed a lot and I don't really know where they are at now. What I know is that the default design is ugly and that's why I keep using bootstrap for my projects. I can say I have a positive experience with semantic since I'm only using that now. But I'm very lost and it feels like it could take a long time to learn. Although you can start using it the same as you use bootstrap, include the css and js as CDN and here you go.
- 140am 11y agoCurious on the pitfalls, things you did _not_ like using Semantic UI vs. bootstrap for dev?
- astrowilliam 11y agoI just spend 6 hours on a project rewriting Bootstraps columns, etc using @extend in SASS because bootstrap columns are not semantic. yuck.
- Pigo 11y agoI'm still learning about material design, but wanting to get my feet wet. Google seems to be promoting Polymer as the go to project. What's your impression of Polymer vs materialize or semantic ui?
