I'm not entirely sure under what logic you can call one of the fastest evolving sectors in the world 'glacial'. Take a look at a Web 1.0 application and compare it to a web 2.0 application. The difference in quality and feature set is remarkably greater than if you take two equivalent cars from the same periods and compare and contrast them. I'm pretty sure the 'solving difficult problems' thing is more of a hacker mindset than a gender specific one :-)
