The West is so inconsistent. It will cheer as Charlie Hebdo mocks the prophet of a quarter of the living people on Earth.
"Free speech!"
But then it will close down forums where some people say mean things about some other people.
"Propriety!" "It's 'curated' or 'managed', not censored!"
- andrewflnr 11y agoIt's almost as if The West isn't a monoculture, and contains people who disagree with each other.
- themeekforgotpw 11y agoI don't think we can characterize it as that. Of course there are people who disagree with one another (everywhere). This comment above is about consensus - or its approximate form - that ends up dominating the conversation.

- themeekforgotpw 11y agoI think state sponsored messaging helped as much. But sure. I don't think that's at odds with the claim at the top.
