A lot of people seem to use the bizarro-world definition of wealth as "owning cash-gobbling, depreciating assets", such as cars, clothes or (in many cases) houses. Basically they've mistaken the trappings of wealth with the causes of wealth, and then become confused as to why they're not wealthy.
