I dont belive it is posible to stop all suicides if we want a society where free thoughts is allowed.
- x3n0ph3n3 11y agoI'm probably in the minority who believe we should not be actively trying to prevent suicides. I hope I have the freedom to take my own life some day when I feel done with it
- tedks 11y agoI think this is a totally different question and issue (the right to die and to determine the manner of one's death) than the one at hand (the mental health problem of suicide).
- timonoko 11y agoBest "Suicide Prevention" is to establish mechanisms for self-determined pain-free death. These mechanisms should allow one to trigger the dying process years before the actual event. One could decide for example I want to die 3 years from now, unless I do clearly indicate otherwise. The problem in Sweden is that health industry is currently heavily polluted with religious creeps, who have difficulties even medicating the pain of dying patients.
- aaron695 11y ago> I hope I have the freedom to take my own life some day This is different to actively trying to prevent suicides. What most people want is to stop bad irreversible decisions.
- zeeed 11y ago> What most people want is to stop bad irreversible decisions. Not so sure about this one. Isn't it that, from the point of view of a healthy, well socialized human, it's quite a horrifying thought of someone killing themselves? Isn't it that, if you have the gift and the will to give someone something so substantial as "being listened to", and this would save them from killing themselves, that is a human deed that we should offer for free, willingly and with compassion? In my belief system suicide prevention is (for the most part) an emotional issue rather than an intellectual one.
- olavk 11y agoThe most common cause of suicide is untreated depression. People who commit suicide are desperate and not thinking clearly. If you are in a position to prevent a suicide please do. Yeah, in theory you can rationally and in a sound state of mind decide to commit suicide. However most suicides in reality are not like that.
