Nice work – would be great to get a persistent URL for these once you've made one.

"Please view this site on a desktop device"?
  • phs2501 11y ago
Yeah, kind of lame that they couldn't be bothered to have a version with a normal text box for mobile rather than their fancy eat-all-of-the-key-events-even-control-characters desktop version. Still the thing is cool, just the explicit desktop-only attitude is grating when a mobile-capable one would actually be easier.

  Beautiful...

Perfect for ransom letters! Good job.

If the result was in any way readable...
    • pavlov 11y ago
Aren't ransom letters supposed to be hard to read? That's part of the reason why they're so scary. "OMG, they have Mike! Or maybe they want milk... No, it's definitely about Mike."

  Hijacking control keys are we?
• lyime 11y ago
Curious how they created the dataset from Instagram. Does it use the hashtag search API or does Instagram does image analysis and provides results via an API?
• snambi 11y ago
Very nice. How did they find a matching picture for the letter typed?
• yzh 11y ago
This is awesome! Just curious, do they find images according to instagram tags like #A #B ... within #36daysoftype? Or do they use some kind of visual recognition method to retrieve pictures in real-time?

Kidnappers no long need to buy tons of magazines to compose an anonymous letter :P
